music campaign

Pompeii by Bastille got nominated for the international work of the year. The music video is about how a normal guy runs into these people who seem to be infected so he runs away from civilisation and at the end of the video he becomes infected as well.

The album cover, website and the actual video are all similar, for example they are all simple and realistic, the album cover is a picture of nature and hasn't been edited at all. The actual video is in normal civilisation until the end where the man runs to a mountain and is on his own. The websites homepage is just a picture of a car in what looks like a dessert. This is just simple and portrays a simple image to the audience.
These are all very similar in the fact that they can all be related to normal living conditions by the audience and we as an audience can understand what is going on because we can relate to it and it means something to us because of the normality of the photos and video.
The overall message, goal or image that the company is trying to give to us the audience is the fact their products are simple and easy to understand, there is nothing special in what the company is doing. There is difference in the video compared to the album cover and the the website, the album cover is a picture of a man running down a road, this is nothing to do with Pompeii however. The website picture is of a car in the middle of the dessert. The video is mainly within a city. All three elements are quite different, but the website can be related to the video but the album cover cant be.

I think that it is quite an effective campaign, as personally i like music videos which i can understand rather than ones that have no meaning to life and are very hard to interpret.

Take That

The conventions of the music video, the website and the album cover are not the same. The conventions to the music video is darkness and Take that recoding the song in a studio, the fact that it is in darkness shows secretiveness and mixed opinions. The darkness of the album cover also helps to show this secretiveness of the song. This is strange as the actual song is about hope and love.
The fact that the music video is in a studio shows uniqueness to the other music videos. Personally i like the music video inside the studio because it isnt very common and it looks good. The album cover and the video differ greatly compared to the website, the website is very bright and colourful, this is a massive contrast to the video and album cover. I dont quite know why the video and the album cover are in dark colours, because the song is about hope and love and therefor the video and album cover should be in light colours, this is supported by the website.
i think that the overall message or goal that Take That are trying to portray the darkness and mixed opinions, for example the video can either be seen as dark and negative about love, or it can be seen as positive. if Take That's goal or aim is to do that than i think they have done it successfully, i am not quite sure what the overall message is.
